Hina and Other Japanese Dolls
Momo no Sekku (Peach Blossom Festival) and Japanese Dolls
March 3 is called Joshi no Sekku. It is also known as Momo no Sekku (Peach Blossom Festival), in which dolls such as Odairisama—consisting of Obina (male doll) and Mebina (female doll)—Sannin Kanjo (three court ladies), and Gonin-Bayashi (five court musicians) are displayed on a himosen (red carpet) with small objects. How did these hina doll decorations come about? This webpage introduces hina dolls, focusing on the collections of the Tokyo National Museum.
This page consists of selected reedited content from the Tokyo National Museum's previous special exhibition: "Hina and Other Japanese Dolls".
