Japan Search (Website provided with the domain “jpsearch.go.jp”. Hereafter, “this site”.) is being operated by the National Diet Library under the policies of Study Group for Promoting Digital Archiving. This site publishes and provides data provided by its partners. Since the frequency this site is updated varies depending on the participating organization, please check the participating organization’s source database for the latest information. Please note the following items when using this site. Also refer to "the specialized terms page" for terms used on this site.

Copyrights other than those for data provided on this site by participating organizations shall belong to the National Diet Library unless specifically noted otherwise.

This site can be used under the “Public Data License (Version 1.0)”, which is compatible with the “Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC BY 4.0)” provisions.


Using Data

When using metadata and thumbnail images, please check the conditions of use described on each database introduction page of participating organizations. Note that when no particular conditions of use are described on the database page, metadata can be used under the “CC0 1.0 Universal (CC0 1.0) Public Domain Dedication” provisions.

Please consult the secondary use conditions* described on the search results details screen with regard to individual digital contents (When the conditions of use differ between the database introduction page and the content search results details screen, the search results details screen shall take precedence). When using data, please also verify the conditions of use on the participating organization's source database.

(Our Request of You When Using Data)

We ask that you pay special attention to the following items even when secondary use of data is freely permitted by CC0, etc. This usage guide has no legal effect, but it is based on your goodwill. We expect that you respect it.

  • Please list the author's name, participating organization, data creator, holding libraries, etc. as the source. Please refer to the “Examples of Source Listing” for the listing procedure.
  • When editing or processing data, etc. and using it, please document that you have done so. Please refer to the “Examples of Source Listing” for the listing procedure. Please do not publish data that you have edited or processed, etc. in a manner which makes the providing organization appear to have created said data.
  • Please do not remove any CC0 or public domain mark or notice that have been applied.
  • Please do not make use of the work in a manner that could create a misleading impression, such as how the work should be used, etc., that clearly contradicts the intention of the author. In case the work includes culturally sensitive elements, please do not use it in ways that might be derogatory other cultures or communities.
  • Please pay attention to rights other than the copyrights (author's moral rights, neighboring rights, portrait rights, publicity rights, privacy rights, trademark rights, etc.) and comply with related laws and regulations.

Applicable Laws and Jurisdiction

Interpretation of this site policy shall be based upon Japanese law. With regard to the use of data published on this site or disputes concerning this site’s site policy, the district court or summary court that has jurisdiction over the location of the participating organization providing the data in question or the organization publishing this site policy shall be the court of exclusive jurisdiction by agreement in the first instance.
