- The Warlord Oda Nobunaga (Copy)

The warlord Oda Nobunaga (1534–1582) nearly succeeded in unifying Japan under his rule but was defeated by a treacherous general. The original version of this portrait was created on the sixth anniversary of his death. The top is inscribed with Buddhist poetry praying for the warlord’s salvation in the afterlife.
本図は、天正10年(1582)に没した織田信長の七回忌に制作された肖像画の写しです。鼻骨の高い顔立ちは、一周忌に際して狩野永徳が描いたという信長像（京都・大徳寺）に共通します。公家の近衛前久は「南無阿弥陀仏」の六文字を句の頭にした追善の和歌6首を詠み、原本に添えました。
- Nobunaga Oda
Nobunaga Oda was a Busho (military commander) of the Sengoku and Azuchi-momoyama eras. In spite of his aspiration to unify Japan, he took his own life during an attack by his subordinate, Mitsuhide Akechi, while staying at Honnoji Temple.
戦国時代・安土桃山時代の武将。天下統一を目指したが、本能寺に宿泊中、家臣の明智光秀に襲撃され、自害しました
