Description

The warlord Oda Nobunaga (1534–1582) nearly succeeded in unifying Japan under his rule but was defeated by a treacherous general. The original version of this portrait was created on the sixth anniversary of his death. The top is inscribed with Buddhist poetry praying for the warlord’s salvation in the afterlife.
