Oita City has a topography blessed with lush green mountains, blue seas, and clean rivers, and has long played a role as a strategic point in eastern Kyushu. Since it was designated as a new industrial city in 1964, industrial accumulation and rapid progress have been made. In addition, as the birthplace of Nanban culture, remnants of that still remain today, and the thoughts of Otomo Sorin, who ruled Bungo during the Sengoku period, and other predecessors who laid the foundations of Oita, are still passed down to this day. 大分市美術館は、緑豊かな上野丘子どものもり公園内にあり、「たのしんで・みて・まなぶ」美術館として、年間を通じて所蔵の美術品が鑑賞できるコレクション展（常設展）やさまざまな優れた分野の美術を紹介する特別展の開催、各種講座・講演会の開催など、子どもから大人まで誰もが幅広く楽しめる生涯学習施設としての美術館運営をめざしています。
