Description
雄鶏の奥から雌鶏が顔を出し、手前に描かれた雛を見守っている。雄鶏の姿は鶏冠や肉髥から羽、尾、脚にいたるまで濃密に描かれているのに比べ、雌鶏と雛が単純化されているため、見逃してしまいそうな構図である。雄鶏の背中の羽の部分にはわずかではあるが、墨の滲みの効果を利用した若冲特有のいわゆる「筋目描き」の描写も見られる。左端に記された落款には「米斗翁行年七十九歳画」とあり、若冲が天明8年（1788）の天明の大火後に石峰寺（現在の京都市伏見区深草）の門前に構えた庵で制作していた時期でもある寛政6年（1794）の作と分かる。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums
The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
