Description
本作は1861年、初めてサロンに入選した《スペインの歌手》（メトロポリタン美術館蔵）に由来している。当時の批評家テオフィール・ゴーチェは同作を称賛し、「ギタレロ」と名付けた。本作は原作に比べ左右が反転しているものの、細かなタッチで男性の顔や衣装をはじめ画面全体に丁寧に陰影をつけ、原作の雰囲気を忠実に再現することに成功している。マネは1850年から6年間、トマ・クチュールの画塾へ通い、59年のサロンに初めて《アブサンを飲む男》（ニイ・カールスベルグ美術館蔵）を送ったが、あえなく落選した。ここでは修行時代、ディエゴ・ベラスケスらのスペイン画家から受けた影響を如実に感じさせる。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums
The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
