Description
短筒は火縄銃の一種で、騎馬戦用の馬上筒（ばじょうづつ）から改良され、片手で持ったまま発射できることを特徴としている。戦乱の激しい戦国時代を経て、天下泰平となった江戸時代中期頃から上層の武士・町人等の間に、屋敷内の庭先を利用して標的を据え、殺傷能力の低い短筒で的当てを競い合う遊びが流行した。本作は、銃身に銀象嵌で青海波（せいがいは）文と登竜門の故事に因む鯉登滝図（りとうろうず）が施され、前目当（まえめあて）下方に三葉葵の紋様が彫り刻まれている。図様から徳川家の男子が、出世をした記念に製作されたもので、江戸時代中期の享保頃（1730年頃）のものと思われる。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums
The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
