Description

吉田博が本格的に私家版木版画の制作に着手したのは、三度目の欧米旅行から帰国した大正14年（1925）。その翌年には早くも41点もの作品を精力的に生み出したが、その中には博の木版画を代表する「日本アルプス十二題」「瀬戸内海集」シリーズも含まれている。この作品は、博の海景を代表するシリーズ「瀬戸内海集」（全9点）の第一作目である。時刻は日暮れであろうか。凪の海に二艘の帆船が静かに浮かぶ。水平線に沈みゆく夕陽が、空をほんのり紅く染め、海原に美しい光の道をつくりだしている。波間に反射する光彩が、丸ノミによる彫り跡によって見事に表現されており、博の木版画表現に対する卓越した理解と技術を見ることができる。本図は、故ダイアナ元英国皇太子妃が、ロンドンにあるケンジントン宮殿の執務室に飾っていたことでも知られている。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums

　The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. 　JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
