Description
江戸時代に入り、桃山時代の豪奢で勇壮な狩野派様式を、瀟洒端麗な様式へと革新したのは狩野探幽であった。探幽は新たにやまと絵の技法も取り入れ、「景物画」と呼ばれる日本の名所における四季や風俗を主題とした新しい絵画の領域を開拓した。本作で描かれる吉野山の桜、龍田川の紅葉は、春秋の季節を代表する景物として和歌にも詠まれ、古来より親しまれてきた伝統的画題の一つである。画面全体の切箔と砂子を用いた金雲や霞の表現、流麗な流水の描写、桜花の春と紅葉の秋との対比が美しい。ここでは狩野派特有の樹木や岩の豪快な描写をおさえ、やまと絵風の花木や山々の大らかで精緻な画風を引き立たせることで、自然の心地よい風情を引き出すことに成功している。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums
The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
