Description
児島高徳は南北朝の武将。高徳は後醍醐天皇の倒幕計画に呼応し、備前（現在の岡山県）にて蜂起。後に天皇が隠岐配流となると、奪還を企てたが失敗。天皇一行が宿泊した夜、警備の目を盗み宿所の庭に入り、桜の木に「天勾践を空しうすることなかれ、時に范蠡なきにしもあらず」と刻み、天皇を激励したという。勾践と范蠡は中国・春秋時代の主君とその主君の危機を救った参謀のこと。本作ではまさに高徳がその言葉を刻み込まんと小刀を抜き出した刹那の場面が描かれる。歴史画で名士として知られた米僊の本地を窺い知れる佳品といえよう。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums
The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
