Cherry Blossoms at Night (“Flowers” scroll from the Snow, Moon, and Flowers triptych) 夜桜（花）よざくら（はな）
Description
昭和27年（1952）年2月に東京・京橋の兼素洞において開催された「第1回雪月花展」出品作。本作は同展で花を担当した大観が描いた2点のうちの一つで、京都祇園にある円山公園の枝垂れ桜をモティーフに描いたもの。春の薄やみの中、立ちのぼる二条の篝火の明かりによって浮かび上がってくる桜の優艶な姿がドラマチックに描き出されている。かつて大観は同5（1930）年のローマでの日本美術展に六曲一双屏風の《夜桜》(大倉集古館蔵)を出品しているが、この時の典雅で清明な趣とは異なり、本作はむしろ幽玄で、大観が愛蔵していた冨田溪仙の《祇園夜桜》（横山大観記念館蔵）に着想を得たといえるだろう。老年ながらも心底にたぎる浪漫を感じさせる晩年の傑作といえる。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums
The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
