Morning Snow (“Snow” scroll from the Snow, Moon, and Flowers triptych) 朝雪（雪）あさゆき（ゆき）
Description
本作は「第1回雪月花展」の出品作。雪月花展は東京・京橋の画廊兼素洞で開催された企画展で、昭和27年（1952）から3年にわたり毎年1回行われた。同展は横山大観、玉堂、川端龍子が「雪月花」それぞれの画題を担当し、2点ずつ作画するというもので、第1回展では玉堂が雪、龍子が月、大観が花を担当した。玉堂が描いた雪といえば《宿雪》（日本芸術院蔵）や《深林宿雪》（岐阜県美術館蔵）があるが、晩年、奥多摩へ疎開してからも雪は変わらず彼の主要画題であり続けた。本作では雪かきに精をだす親子の姿と水車小屋を中心に、靄の立ちこめる静かな山村の朝を温情豊かに捉えている。雪に加え、点景人物・水車・靄といった玉堂芸術の重要な要素を網羅した最晩年の優品といえる。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums
The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
