アントワーヌ・ド・ラ・ロックは、ヴァトーの友人で、戦争で片足を失ったのを機に、その文才を生かして雑誌『メルキュール・ド・フランス』誌の編集長やオペラの台本作家として活躍した人物。彼の傍らにある楽器や書物は、彼のこの第二の人生を連想させる。また、画面右側に描かれたミューズやファウヌスによって、寓意的・神話的な雰囲気が生まれている。友人の肖像であると同時に神話画的な雰囲気も併せ持つユニークな作品。田園牧歌趣味をロココ的に発展させ、雅宴画のジャンルを開いたヴァトーの確かな腕が光る名作。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums

　The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. 　JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
