Description

イギリスの19世紀アカデミズムの成果ともいえる本作は、自然に対する作者の透徹した眼と描写技術の確かさを窺わせる。静寂な秋の夕暮れどきの、仄かな残照の暖かさ、小川の流れの透明な冷たさ、大気の緩やかな動き、淡い時間の移ろいゆくさまを、自然主義に根ざした画風で、実在感をもって描出している。他にヴィクトリア朝風景画の特色をよく示している代表作として1881年のロイヤル・アカデミーに出品した《2月のフィル・ダイク》（バーミンガム市立美術館蔵）が知られている。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums

　The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. 　JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
