Description
This deep pot dating from the Middle Jomon period was unearthed at the Tohgeshita Site in Nanae Town. The thickened rim is thought to have been shaped like four mountains, but one of them is missing. The rim is decorated with three lines of puncture marks made by pointed objects. The body part has only a slanted rope pattern. The pot is thought to correspond to Tenjinyama-type pottery, found in central Hokkaido. It is also thought to have been brought in because the clay of the pot contains lots of sand grains and the pot is thicker than the pottery of the same period found in southern Hokkaido (where Nanae is located).
