貝原益軒の兄存齋（元端）の書状。嶺家は宗像大社の社家を代々務めた家。書状は存齋から嶺新二郎に宛てたもの。その内容からは、単なる個人の書簡のやりとりに留まらない、貝原家と嶺家の親密な様子をうかがうことができる。また、貝原存齋に関する資料は少なく、貴重。〔第37回新収蔵品展〕
