Description
明治29年（1896）に下新川端町（博多区下新川端町、川端中央街）が制作した2番山笠の写真。山笠は福岡県によって明治5年から15年まで禁止され翌年に再興した。明治時代初期の山笠は高さ16ｍに及んだとされるが、この写真の山笠も背が高く、10ｍ以上程度の高さがあったと見られる。〔第36回新収蔵品展〕
