箱眼鏡は、木箱の底にガラス板が張られており、海に浮かべ、海中の様子を確認するための道具。おもにアマ漁において、船上から海中の貝類や藻類をとる「磯いそ見み」で使われた。箱眼鏡には、持ち主が分かるよう名前や船名などが記された。〔No.512 島とくらし―玄界島―〕
