Vest Worn over Armor ("Jinbaori") with Crossed Scythes 陣羽織 猩々緋羅紗地違鎌模様じんばおり しょうじょうひらしゃじちがいかまもよう
Description
Samurai commanders wore sleeveless jackets called [jinbaori] over their armor. This example is made of costly wool imported to Japan through overseas trade with Europe. The design of crossed sickles illustrates the striking fashions that samurai commanders favored during the tumultuous Warring States period (late 1400s–early 1600s).
