Description
This bowl is one of the earliest examples of Japanese porcelain, created at the Imari kilns in the early 1600s. It was made with a narrow foot to prevent the bowl from warping under the intense heat of the kiln. A Chinese-style landscape fills the surface, with emphasis on spontaneous brushwork rather than a precise representation of space.
