Pure Land Mandala 浄土曼荼羅図じょうどまんだらず

Description

Amitabha Buddha sits at the center of this Kamakura-period (1185–1333) painting of the Western Pure Land, flanked by two bodhisattvas, Avalokiteshvara and Mahasthamaprapta. Other bodhisattvas and companions surround them. In the background are two pagodas with sprawling transept wings, and a lake of blooming lotuses fills the foreground in this scene of Amitabha delivering a sermon in paradise.
