Description
This printing block features roundels carved on both sides, depicting dynamic lions exhaling breath from their mouths. It was used to print patterns onto fabrics by applying ink to the block and pressing the cloth against it. Textiles with such patterns were used for bugaku (court dance) costumes as well as the outer garments of lower-ranking government officials.
