Description
島女は黙阿弥の次女。柴田是真の門に入って修行し、是真の十哲に数えられる絵師となった。黙阿弥の画才の血を受けたのであろう。国立劇場が所蔵する12点の団扇絵には、釣鐘の一部をクローズアップした大胆な構図で渋みと意外性を見せるもの、季節感溢れる花々、生命の輝きを見せる鳥や魚の躍動感など、いずれも小さな団扇のなかに非凡な才が開花しており、勢いのある線描には黙阿弥の作風をも垣間見る。
