Description
油絵具で描かれ、黒を背景とした本格的な西洋風のポートレイト。大正14年（1925）に開場して以来昭和14年（1939）までの15年間、新橋演舞場で毎年公演を行ったことを記念して、五郎は『十五年の足跡』という本を刊行するとともに、この肖像画を劇場に飾らせた。喜劇俳優というより政治家や実業家のように見えるが、功成り名を遂げた五郎は、自分もまたそうした立派な人物の一人であると、見る者に思わせたかったのかもしれない。
