Located in the southern part of Okinawa Island, Nanjo City was established on January 1, 2006 through the merger of one town and three villages (Sashiki Town, Chinen Village, Tamagusuku Village, and Ozato Village). The city area, located within 50 minutes from Naha Airport, faces Nakagusuku Bay and the Pacific Ocean, and have rich natural environment. Nanjo City has a variety of cultural resources, including Seifa-Utaki(The World Heritage Site), Kudaka-Jima(One of the most sacred islands in Okinawa), magnificent Gusuku(Castle), and folk cultures that have been passed down by the local people.
