Fukui City History Museum

福井県福井市宝永3丁目12-1

Our museum opened in 1953 on Asuwayama as a symbol of Fukui City’s recovery from successive war damage and earthquake disasters. Since then, we have worked to collect materials related to our home region of Fukui, and we hold an extensive collection of documents concerning the Fukui Domain and the Echizen Matsudaira family, including the Load Shungaku Memorial Library. On March 21, 2004, the museum relocated to its current site, which adjoins the Yokokan Garden (formerly the Osensui Residence), a former villa of the Echizen Matsudaira family. The site also includes the reconstructed Toneri Gate of Fukui Castle and remains associated with it. From this location, we continue to further enhance our museum activities.
