The Fukui Prefectural Wakasa Museum of History and Folklore opened in October 1982 as part of the 100th anniversary of the prefecture's establishment as a facility to collect, store and display materials related to the history and folklore of the Wakasa region and contribute to the cultural improvement of the people of the prefecture. The permanent exhibition was renewed twice, in April 1994 and in July 2014 museum was reborn as the Wakasa History Museum.
