Ueda City Public Archives stores important historical documents in good condition and passes them on to future generations as common property of citizens. Furthermore, the archives will be made widely available to the public through viewing and educational programs, and will contribute to guaranteeing the public's right to know, ensuring the accountability of the government, promoting resident autonomy, and developing academic culture. Currently, the Ueda City Public Archives holds approximately 20,000 items (as of the end of FY2022), mainly administrative documents from the Meiji era onward, including documents of former town halls and reports that were kept by the merged municipality.
