Since its establishment in 1928 as the Museum Project Promotion Association, the Japanese Association of Museums has served as a central organization providing cross‑cutting support for museums throughout the country. The Association shares national and local government policies affecting museums, identifies the conditions and challenges faced by individual institutions, and communicates them appropriately to relevant authorities. Through research aimed at improvement, the publication of its journal Museum Studies, training programs for museum staff, and the organization of the Japanese Museum Conference, it promotes information sharing among museums and works to foster a supportive environment surrounding them.
