Kyoto Gyoen National Garden is a rectangular park with an east-west span of 700m and north-south span of 1,300m. It includes former Imperial palaces and other historical sites. In the Edo period(1603-1868), there were many residences of imperial families and court nobles located in this area. In the Meiji period, the residences was removed and developed as a park and is now a place of relaxation rich in nature with historical sites. In the Kyoto Gyoen Archives, or information on the ruins of a court nobles’ residential area in the Edo period to the establishment of Kyoto Gyoen National Garden in the contemporary period, users can search materials released by the Ministry of the Environment and relevant institutions.
