Description
横山大観、川合玉堂、龍子の3巨匠が「雪月花」をテーマに競作した「第1回雪月花展」で、月を任された龍子が出品した2点のうちの一つ。龍子は本作の他に縦の構図で松と月を描いた《天心》（所蔵先不明）を出品している。本作では、澄んだ池の中をゆったりと泳ぐ一尾の真鯉とその水面にぽっかりと映った満月を描き、奇抜に画面を構成している。正確に描写された鯉と月を浮かべて揺らぐ池の水紋の曲線が小気味よく配置されて、洒脱な雰囲気を醸し出している。龍子にとって鯉は特に親しみある画題で、本作以外に《五鯉図》（山種美術館蔵）をはじめ夥しい数の鯉を描き残している。本作は透徹した在野精神と大胆な画想で独自の画境を開いてきた龍子の悠然たる境地を示す快作といえよう。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums
The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
