Description
黒田清輝は、18歳の時に渡仏し、27歳で帰国するまで約9年間の留学生活を送った。当初は法律を学ぶための留学であったが、パリで画家の山本芳翠や美術商の林忠正と出会い、画家に転向する。印象派のように明るい光を描く技法とアカデミックな主題を折衷した「外光派」と呼ばれる様式を牽引したフランス人画家ラファエル・コランに師事した。帰国後は「白馬会」を結成、さらに東京美術学校に新設された西洋画科の指導者となり、日本の洋画界に革新をもたらした。本作はフランス留学時代の作品で、前年に描かれた《摘草》には、野草を摘んでいる同じポーズの女性が描かれている。また、黒田はバルビゾン派の画家ジャン・フランソワ・ミレーに傾倒していた時期があり、本作はミレーが描いた働く農民の姿を想起させるが、技法は印象派的で、画面全体に温かな光が溶け込んでいる。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums
The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
