Description
本作は、近年の研究で革命派と反革命派の争いの場面であるとの指摘がなされている。革命後、貴族文化に反対する人々が、貴族の象徴であったキュロットや絹の長靴下を履かず、下層階級の人々が身につけていたパンタロンを着用するようになり、こうした人々を「サン・キュロット（キュロットを履かない人）」と呼んだ。画面左側にはジャコバン派といわれる粗末な「サン・キュロット」姿をした人々が見え、右側にはミュスカダンといわれるクラバットを顎まで巻き上げた反革命派の貴族たちが見える。両グループの衝突は当時頻繁にあったようで、革命後のパリの市中でしばしば見られたという。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums
The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
