Bowl with Design of Phoenixes, Torroiseshell Glaze 玳皮釉双鸞文碗たいひゆうそうらんもんわん

Description

黒い鉄釉の地に飴色の斑文が生じた外側面の様子が、玳瑁（たいまい）の甲羅である鼈甲（べっこう）の模様に似ていることから「玳皮釉」と呼ばれる。内面は黒釉を掛けた後、想像上の鳥である「鸞」や梅花、蝶の形に切った型紙を置き、その上から白濁する釉薬を掛け、型紙を外して焼成している。日本へは南北朝時代（14世紀）には請来され、「鼈盞（さん）」や「玳皮盞」と呼ばれ、茶碗として珍重されてきた。この碗も江戸期の木箱に納まる。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums

　The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. 　JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
