Description
1880年代の初めにモネは、ある転機を迎えていた。1879年、妻を失い、翌80年にはサロン出品をめぐってドガと対立、印象派展への出品をとりやめた。本作が描かれた81年も参加を断っている。そうした時期にモネを引き寄せたのは、幼い頃から親しんだノルマンディーの海であった。本作はこの年の春、滞在したフェカンで描かれたもの。心の暗雲を吹き払うかのような陽光満ちわたる空と、岸に乗り上げた帆船の黒いシルエット。ノルマンディーの明るい空と海はモネの画興を誘い、翌年のプールヴィルの連作へと続いてゆく。

The Japanese Council of Art Museums
The Japanese Council of Art Museums (JCAM) supports the accomplishment of mission of art museums and seeks to assist art museums in fully basing their activities in a social context. The organization holds an annual meeting, memorial forums at annual meetings, lectures, Curatorial Study Meetings, and Study Group activities every year. The information and reports generated by these various activities are then expected to be shared with member museums, the greater art-related world and the general public. JCAM was founded in 1952 with the aim of providing a forum for art museums in Japan to think and act together. The organization was registered as a general incorporated association on April 1st, 2020 and includes over 450 members (full members, individual members and supporting members).
