Description
This was a work Shodo exhibited at the 2600 Imperial Anniversary Commemoration Exhibition. Shodo was a leading figure in modern art and the holder of Important Intangible Cultural Properties. This was an incredibly unique work, using a lacquered bronze base and a bright-red parrot with eyes inlaid with coral. This work was received poorly at the exhibition, with viewers commenting that they could not see the quality of the materials. However, Shodo had a clear intention to harmonize the vivid red lacquer with the classic green and blue colors to create a true Japanese-style Art Nouveau work.
