Kanazawa city

Kanazawa City is located almost in the center of Honshu, Japan. Since it was incorporated as a city in 1889, the city area has expanded through repeated incorporation and mergers with neighboring towns and villages, and in 1996 it became a core city. Kanazawa flourished as the castle town of the Maeda clan of the Kaga domain, and traditional crafts such as Kaga Yuzen, Kanazawa gold leaf, and Kutani ware, as well as traditional performing arts such as Noh and Kaga Manzai, have been passed down. In addition, during the time of the fifth feudal lord, Maeda Tsunanori, Kaga was praised as the "Letter Capital of the World" for encouraging learning by gathering famous scholars and valuable books from all over Japan. As the city escaped war damage and other major disasters, many of the beautiful townscapes from the feudal domain era remain to this day, and are a valuable asset for the city of Kanazawa.
