三重県・鳥羽市の沖合にある神島。この島に伝わるゲーター祭は、元日の夜明け前に、災いをもたらす「アワ」と呼ばれる白い輪を退治し、新しい年の日の出を迎える祭りです。２００本を超える竹でアワを突き上げ、海に生きる男たちは、新年の豊漁と島の平穏を神に祈ります。
