聖徳太子が創建した寺院として知られる法隆寺は、１９９３年に日本で最初に世界文化遺産に登録されました。西院伽藍にそびえるのは、世界最古の木造の五重塔。飛鳥時代の創建以来、地震などで倒壊することなく、古の姿をとどめており、遥か古代の優れた建築技術を今に伝えています。
