秋田県の湯沢は横手盆地南部の城下町です。町の入口に立つ鹿嶋様は、高さが４ｍあまりもあり、疫病退散と豊作を祈願したみちのくの守り神です。鳥海山を臨む湯沢市は、おいしい米と豊富な湧き水に恵まれた町です。古くから酒造りが盛んな湯沢には、今も市内に造り酒屋があります。
