Pottery vessel unearthed from the Seizan Site 聖山遺跡出土土器せいざんいせきしゅつどどき

Description

This jar-shaped pottery vessel was unearthed from the Seizan Site in Nanae Town. It has a protrusion on the rim, and the lower half of the body has the largest diameter. The body portion has a decorative band around it featuring designs composed of interlocking ornamental elements (known as renkei irikumi-mon). In a broad sense, the vessel corresponds to Ohbora C2-type pottery, but it is called Seizan I-type pottery in southern Hokkaido.
