Pottery vessel unearthed at the Seizan Site 聖山遺跡出土土器せいざんいせきしゅつどどき

Description

This bowl-shaped pottery vessel dating from the Final Jomon period was unearthed from the Seizan Site in Nanae Town. Its unique feature is a knob-like protrusion with a trifurcated pattern on the rim. The body has designs composed of interlocking ornamental elements (known as renkei irikumi-mon), which are accentuated by the areas cut off by grooved lines and made plain. In a broad sense, the vessel corresponds to Ohbora C2-type pottery, but it is called Seizan I-type pottery in southern Hokkaido.
