Pottery vessel unearthed at the Seizan Site 聖山遺跡出土土器せいざんいせきしゅつどどき

Description

This pedestalled pottery vessel dating from the Final Jomon period was unearthed at the Seizan Site in Nanae Town. The rim is decorated with applique of sawtooth-shaped clay strings with grooved lines, and the body part and pedestal with combined designs composed of interlocking ornamental elements (known as renkei irikumi-mon). In a broad sense, the vessel corresponds to Ohbora C2-type pottery, but it is locally called Seizan I-type pottery.
