Description
The scallop Fortipecten takahashii is among the most common fossils to be found in Numata Town. The Horonitachibetsu River, which runs through the town, is known by many as the world’s leading Fortipecten takahashii fossil site. Due to its significance, the river has been protected as a municipal cultural property.
