狩衣は公家の普段着であったが、能では、高貴な人物や神を演じる際の上衣である。謡曲（ようきょく）「西行桜」の主人公は、歌人・西行が愛でた老木の桜の精霊。四君子の1つになぞらえられる竹の模様の入った、薄物の単（ひとえ）狩衣を着用することによって、優しく気品のある性格を表す。（20140225_h09)
