Large Footed Dish with a Peony 青磁陽刻牡丹文三足大皿せいじようこくぼたんもんさんそくおおざら

Description

In the early 1700s, the shogun’s government passed laws curbing extravagance and excessive spending. These laws spurred the creation of porcelain with monochrome glazes and elegantly restrained decorations. In this example, the carved peony flowers harmonize beautifully with the glossy celadon glaze.
