Description
Master artisans at the Nabeshima kilns made porcelain with unique designs to please their samurai patrons. The two white gourds painted on this dish were a favorite decorative motif among the samurai. Gourds are a type of fruit with many seeds, so they symbolized the birth of many children to carry on the family name into the future.
