Description

The master potter Dōhachi (1783–1855) crafted this tea bowl in the Black Raku style, a type of lightweight, hand-shaped pottery developed in Kyoto. The crane on the outside and the turtle on the inside are traditional symbols of long life, as these creatures were thought to live for hundreds or thousands of years.
