Katana Mounting (Uchigatana), Named Akechi Goshirae 溜塗打刀(明智拵)ためぬりのうちがたな あけちごしらえ
Description
The plain design of this sword mounting suggests that it was intended for use in battle rather than for ceremonies or gift-giving. A family emblem hidden inside the scabbard suggests that it was owned by Akechi Mitsuhide (died 1582), a treacherous samurai general who assassinated his master, Oda Nobunaga.
